Entering a new world of work

Peak Vienna is one of the buildings to look up to in Vienna. With its 31 floors, it towers far above the Florisdorf district and offers tenants a unique view of the nearby city centre and the parks in the immediate vicinity. During the fundamental refurbishment in 2019 and 2020, the brand identity and the utilisation concept of the building were completely revised. Peak Vienna today stands for an office ensemble that combines work and well-being, urbanity and local recreation. The “Work well” value proposition is delivered through a dedicated 5G campus network, free health promotion services, and close integration of architecture and green spaces.

A central component of the innovative spatial concept is the light-flooded entrance area which is several storeys high. A friendly welcome is provided here by the reception staff - and the pedestrian barriers from Magnetic's FlowMotion® model range. They welcome visitors and show them the way into the building. At the same time, they guarantee security at Peak Vienna by consistently checking access authorisations.

FAAC GmbH from Salzburg was responsible for consulting and sales in this project. FAAC had initially offered the entire access control system with one of the leading providers of building system technology. When this offer did not materialise, they sought the cooperation of the architectural firm that had planned the entire refurbishment and thus achieved their common goal. The customer and the project partner were able to benefit from FAAC's many years of expertise in design and structural implementation.

4 passages now connect the public and the protected area: 3 passages with the mWing turnstiles and 1 passage with the mSwing swing door. With mWing, one lock in standard width and two as “wide lane” with widened passage were implemented. This also allows employees with luggage, wheelchair users and regular suppliers easy access via the separation. The mSwing swing door clears the way for groups of visitors without access authorisation and also offers sufficient width for larger deliveries. Due to the bidirectional operation, passage is possible without waiting times even during peak times in the morning and after work. In order to incorporate the architectural language of the entrance area, the planners adjusted the barrier widths so that the 4 passages fit exactly between the supporting columns.

The design of the access control systems and the interaction with the surrounding architecture were in any case the point with which the FlowMotion® model series won over the customer. “We were looking for a system that would form a design unit with the building”, explains the lead architect. “The flowing lines and refined lighting of FlowMotion® convinced us completely. This is what the entry into our new world of work must look like!”
